MONEY isn't the enemy.

MONEY.

Probably one of the most confronting subjects I ever had to face in my life.

But it's time to start discussing this.

When I was younger I fell into the same trap as many other empathic personalities. When it comes to a social cause or sustainability money is the enemy. Why? Because it feels wrong. Because when you receive a financial return, it feels like you're doing a bad thing.

It was very hard for me to start asking money for my services. Because I was always working on a way to make the world a better place. We have wars over money, murders, kidnappings. Money never made the world a better place. It made it worse.

Or so that was my mindset.

And it's still the mindset of a lot of people here in Belgium. If someone who works for a good cause earns a fair amount of money. People judge. And they can be cruel.

A few years ago, when I was working with children towards a more positive mindset and a better environment, I got to a point where I had to either stop working with children or ask more money for my services. A job that could support me better financially seems like the logic thing to do. And no, not because I wanted to drive in a Porsche, because I needed to survive like many others.

But that didn't feel like the right thing to do. I had so much potential to reach a lot of big dreams. Dreams that can make the world a better place. Should I give it all up just because of.. money??

The answer was NO.

That's when my mindset changed. Money isn't the enemy. Money is just a way to make things happen. At any point in life it all depends on the person behind the actions.

Today I am very happy that I made the right choice. The choice to go for my dream and to make things happen while asking money for my services and changing the world one step at a time.

But I am aswell very sad for the companies who are still stuck in that circle.

In my company, I want to partner with a lot of social entrepreneurs, companies that go for a sustainable way of working. But the sad thing is.. their websites are down, they are not up to date, they don't work. Or.. They don't answer their emails. This forces me to look for other websites or companies who do work, who answer and companies who are present.

And that makes me sad. So many companies out there have potential to make this world a better place but are forced to look for a 9 to 5 job to pay the bills.

So is that what we want? A lot of big dreams that end up into.. nothing?

That exist.. but that are not.. there?

If tomorrow I earn 800.000 dollars and say it's because of social actions, people will judge. But when they see me investing that 800.000 dollars in a ship with doctors and nurses to travel the world to heal the sick people in poor countries.. they will judge in a positive way.

To all social entrepreneurs out there.. PEOPLE WILL JUDGE ANYWAY.

Do ask money for your services and show everyone what your worth. Because if you don't

go for it and dare to ask a fair amount of money, the world will not become a better place.

Companies that don't care about sustainability will only get bigger and bigger and where does that lead to.

You are worth it. Believe it. Feel it and live it.

And don't let judgements change your course.

Money is a way to make things happen. Nothing more, nothing less. So go out there and MAKE IT HAPPEN.
